Two CCTSCPA Members Named as TSCPA Rising Stars
Congratulations to Misty Mata and Kellie Shipley on their recent honor of being named as two of TSCPA’s 2017 Rising Stars! The Rising Star awards recognize CPA members 40-years-old or younger who have demonstrated exemplary leadership skills and active involvement in TSCPA, the accounting profession and/or their communities. Plan to read more about Misty and Kellie in the September/October issue of Today’s CPA.

TSCPA Advocates for You During 2017 Legislative Session
TSCPA scored some successes for CPAs and the public during the 2017 legislative session. The Texas Legislature passed HB 1930 requiring state and local governments to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) in their financial reports. State and local governments will now be required to report post-employment benefits.

This is a win for the public in general because it increases the transparency and accountability within our local and state governments. TSCPA's other big win this session was SB 1083, which creates a de Minimis exemption for a CPA firm whose work for a client may unintentionally stray into the state’s broad definitions of "insurance services."

SB 1083 creates a limited safeguard for CPA firms in the event they inadvertently perform insurance services, as defined by the comptroller. Thank you to our governmental affairs volunteers and CPA-PAC supporters who help TSCPA push for beneficial legislation!

The Tough Get Tougher
CCTSCPA hosted a Krav Maga self-defense workshop last month to help our members feel safer and best prepared to protect themselves. These tough guys and gals walked away with some new tools and training to keep them safe and sound!

CCTSCPA Leaders Attend TSCPA Annual Meeting
TSCPA’s Annual Meeting of Members was held in Colorado Springs on June 30 and July 1. Your chapter was well-represented for updates on professional issues and TSCPA news. These leaders brought back some great ideas to keep our chapter engaged in protecting and promoting the profession!

Super at 70!
CCTSCPA turns 70 in 2017, and in 70 years we’ve come a long way! Starting with only 12 members in the Coastal Bend, your chapter has grown to more than 400 present day members. We may have grown exponentially, but our goal remains the same – to protect and promote the CPA profession right here at home. Thank you for being a part of CCTSCPA’s past, present, and future!
