Message from the President
Misty Mata
Misty Mata, CPA
We’re kicking 2017 off with some great CPE offerings! Read on about our member vote and CPE luncheon on Jan. 13, and be sure to take advantage of early bird savings on the Feb. 3 annual tax conference as well.

Last year ended on a high with record attendance at our Meet the CPAs luncheon and another wildly successful Counting on Santa collection. I hope you were able to be a part of these events. Be sure to check out our Facebook page for photos and recaps.

I also want to send thanks to Collier Johnson & Woods, PC for hosting a student field trip in December. If your firm or company would like to host a group this spring (it’s easy, we promise!), let us know. These visits are a great way to show future CPAs what it’s really like to work in an accounting role.

I’ll see you at lunch this month!

Misty Mata, CPA

Prepare to Bid at the Silent Auction
The fourth annual silent auction will be held on Feb. 3, at the 59th Annual Tax Conference. Help show support for local talent by helping to offset their educational costs. There are two ways you can participate. First, if you have something to be included in the auction, please contact Chapter Liaison Melinda Bentley (800/428-0272, ext. 279). Second, be prepared to bid on some great items at the Tax Conference. We’ll be at the Education Service Center all day. If you’re not able to come out for the CPE, please consider stopping by and making a bid.

Congratulations to the Latest Scholarship Recipients
Were you one of the 100 people at the Dec. 9 Meet the CPAs luncheon? If so, you had the fantastic opportunity to hear directly from our most recent chapter scholarship recipients. Congratulations are due to these impressive students, all from TAMUCC. Charoenrat Kaewmanorom, Olga Kvach, Mia Lopez, and Alexandra Murry.

Counting on Santa Finishes Strong!
You made the holidays so much brighter through your generosity in the Counting on Santa collection effort, led by Past-President and Chief Elf Natalie Klostermann. Approximately 1,500 toys, valued at approximately $14,600, were donated to Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi. Catholic Charities representatives notes this was the highest amount of toys they’ve received to date through the Counting on Santa program. Thank YOU for your dedication to this program and area children who were counting on Santa!
