Message from the President
Jeff Smith
Jeff Smith, CPA
With the holiday season underway, our Counting on Santa toy drive is coming to a close. We hope you’ll be able to join us at the Collection Round-Up and Holiday Social on December 8. Details are listed below.

Coming up in January is our next CPE luncheon and two important member votes. We’ll be electing the 2016-2017 chapter leadership and voting on a proposed chapter dues increase. Your chapter board, and boards serving prior to this group, work hard to be good stewards of members’ dues dollars. The chapter has not had a dues increase in the last ten years. We have managed to increase offerings to members while maintaining the same rate for the last decade. As the cost of doing business continues to rise we want to be able to put the chapter on good financial footing to continue to provide advocacy and maintain the same high level of programming going forward. A small increase of $10 for CPAs who do not have retired licenses will help us do that.

While your dues may slightly increase, remember you will benefit from TSCPA’s advocacy effort this past spring to eliminate the annual license fee of almost $200 that you pay to the State Board (effective September 1). If you have any questions about this proposal or about what TSCPA and the chapter do for you, please let me know.

Thank you for your membership and support in 2015! Best wishes to you and yours for a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Jeff Smith, CPA

Notice of Important Member Votes
Scheduled for Jan. 8 Luncheon
Prior to our January CPE presentation, we’ll be holding two member votes. The first vote will be to approve the proposed slate of Officers and Directors for the 2016-2017 fiscal year. Many thanks to the Nominations Committee for their hard work in preparing this slate! Nominees to be presented for election at the Jan. 8 chapter luncheon are:

Officer Candidates:
President – Misty Mata; President-Elect – Jennifer Perales; Vice President – Brett Morrison;

Secretary/Treasurer – Kim Green

Chapter Director Candidates:
Chapter Director (2016-17) – Natalie Klostermann; Chapter Director (2016-17) – Craig Schkade; Chapter Director (2016-18) – Louis Tatum; State Director (2016-2019) – David Morales

Kellie Shipley – Public; Kendra Kennison - Non-Public

Current Term of Office:

The second vote will be on a proposed chapter dues increase of $10 for CPA members who do not hold retired license status with the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. If approved, the new dues rate would be $65 for these members, and it would go into effect in the 2016-2017 year. You can read more about this proposal in the president’s message above.

Silent Auction Benefits Scholarships
for a Third Year
CCTSCPA is preparing for the silent auction to be held on Feb. 5, at the 58th Annual Tax Conference. The last two auctions have raised more than $4,000 that went directly to local scholarship awards. Help show support for local talent by helping to offset their educational costs. There are two ways you can participate in the 2016 silent auction. First, we’re collecting any items you’d like to donate for bidding. If you have something to be included in the auction, please contact Chapter Liaison Melinda Bentley at mbentley@tscpa.net or 800/428-0272, ext. 279. Second, be prepared to bid on some great items at the Tax Conference. We’ll be at the Education Service Center all day. If you’re not able to come out for the CPE, please consider stopping by and making a bid.
