Message from the President
Ahhh September…cooler weather, a Monday holiday, and the end of the lazy days of summer (as if there were such a thing!). In a few short days we’ll be getting together again as a chapter, and that’s just the beginning of the activities planned in Corpus Christi this fall.

Let’s Get Social – Oct. 18
The chapter is planning a social event for the evening of Oct. 18 at The Vineyard. Stay tuned for specific details in a separate e-mail invitation. We hope you’ll take this opportunity to mix and mingle with your colleagues. Can’t wait to see you there!

Pass it On!
TSCPA membership means different things to different people, but one thing we all count on is the strength in the number of 27,000 CPAs working together to protect and promote our profession. It’s time to pass the message on to any non-member CPAs or accounting students that you know. TSCPA’s membership recruitment campaign is a great opportunity to spread the word and help TSCPA and the chapter welcome new members to our professional community.

And to sweeten the deal, TSCPA will send you a $50 CPE voucher for every CPA member you recruit (some restrictions apply), and your colleagues who join will be entered in a drawing for fun prizes.

TSCPA NEWS AND INFORMATION

Accounting Career Education (ACE)
Plans are underway for another successful year of accounting career education. TSCPA has sent information to its chapters regarding opportunities to get involved in this year's program. Individual members are encouraged to speak to classes or participate in career fairs. (Be sure to let the chapter know about your activities so that efforts are coordinated for maximum effectiveness.) For more information about TSCPA’s Accounting Career Education program, contact Donna Fritz. (E-mail dfritz@tscpa.net; phone 800-428-0272 x 201 or 972-687-8501.)

Financial Literacy Mobilization Kit
Develop your plan for participating in the profession’s financial literacy efforts by obtaining the free CPA Mobilization Kit User Guide from the American Institute of CPAs. The guide can be accessed through the CPA Financial Literacy Resource Center.

The User Guide is an instruction manual on using CPA Mobilization Kits to offer community workshops. It includes talking points, financial literacy statistics with sources, and a timeline for planning an event. Kits have samples of a flyer, an invitation and a questionnaire for audience feedback. (The flyer, invitation and questionnaire also are available as downloadable Word documents and include space to insert your logo and organization or program name.)

If you have any questions, please contact Cheryl Reynolds at AICPA. (E-mail creynolds@aicpa.org or phone 212-596-6110.)

Tell a Student About Membership
If you know a business major who is not yet a TSCPA student member, send him or her to the Student Lounge section of the TSCPA Web site (www.tscpa.org). Students who join now will enjoy membership until Aug. 31, 2007, for only $35. Benefits include a $250 coupon for Becker CPA exam review courses, listing TSCPA membership on their resumes, unrestricted access to TSCPA's Members Only and Student Lounge sections of www.tscpa.org, receiving TSCPA publications, and more.

Four $250 tuition/book reimbursements, provided by the Accounting Education Foundation, will be awarded through a random drawing in October. To be eligible, students must be valid student members (renewed by Sept. 1, 2006), majoring in accounting, who have completed at least nine hours of accounting.

For more information, or to receive an application by mail, contact Donna Fritz. (E-mail dfritz@tscpa.net; phone 800-428-0272 x 201 or 972-687-8501.)
